A Pre-Call Transmission

Fax Before Phone

A Pre-Call Transmission
The first practical fax machine was invented by Scottish inventor Alexander Bain in 1843, who patented his "electric printing telegraph." This was more than 30 years before Alexander Graham Bell was granted a patent for the telephone in 1876. Early fax machines transmitted images over telegraph wires long before voice calls were possible.
