Long before virtual reality, families viewed stereo-photographs through special twin-lens viewers. By placing two slightly offset photos next to each other, the viewer's brain merged them into a surprisingly crisp 3D image. Finding an old stereoscopic family photo allows descendants to literally peer into a 3D diorama of the past.
