Introduced in 1907, the Autochrome Lumière process brought the first commercially viable color photography to the public. To achieve these brilliant colors, the film plates were coated in microscopic, dyed potato starches. Families were completely mesmerized seeing their loved ones' true eye and hair colors preserved forever.
