When scanning family albums, you can easily tell who was truly happy and who was faking it. A genuine smile, called a Duchenne smile, involuntarily contracts the muscles around the eyes to form crow's feet. If the eyes aren't wrinkling in that favorite family photo, the subject was just politely posing.
