A Parasitic Passenger: The Lung Fluke
Paragonimus, or the lung fluke, is a parasitic worm that infects humans who eat raw or undercooked freshwater crabs or crayfish. The larvae migrate from the intestines to the lungs, where they mature and form cysts. These cysts appear on X-rays and can be mistaken for tuberculosis or lung cancer.
