The Phantom Orchestra
Hearing music that isn't there
Perhaps the most bizarre musical phenomenon is Musical Ear Syndrome, a condition where individuals with hearing loss experience vivid, complex musical hallucinations. Their sensory-deprived brains attempt to fill the auditory void by spontaneously generating fully orchestrated symphonies, radio jingles, or choirs. These phantom sounds are generated entirely within the brain but are completely indistinguishable from reality.
