In a 1924 college game, University of Illinois player Harold 'Red' Grange scored four touchdowns in the first 12 minutes against a legendary Michigan team. His fame was so immense that when he signed with the NFL's Chicago Bears a year later, his barnstorming tour proved professional football could be a major, profitable sport.
