The dog who leaped into his master's funeral pyre.
Waghya ('Tiger' in Marathi) was the beloved pet dog of the 17th-century Maratha king, Shivaji Maharaj. Legend says that after the king's death, the grief-stricken dog was inconsolable. As his master's funeral pyre was lit, Waghya broke through the crowd and leaped into the flames, choosing to die with the king he had loyally served his entire life.
