Sutton Hoo: A King's Ghost Ship

An entire Anglo-Saxon ship buried in an English hillside.

Unearthed in 1939, this burial mound contained the imprint of an 88-foot-long ship and a treasure-filled burial chamber. Though no body was found, the priceless artifacts, including a spectacular warrior helmet, point to a royal burial around 625 AD. It dramatically illuminated the sophisticated culture of the "Dark Ages" in England.
