Created by the Nazca culture in Peru between 500 BC and 500 AD, these are hundreds of giant figures of animals, plants, and geometric shapes etched into the desert floor. Some are as large as 1,200 feet long, and their purpose is a profound mystery. Theories range from astronomical calendars to ritual pathways for the gods.
