Delusions of identity occur when a person's brain falsely convinces them they are a famous historical figure, celebrity, or even a deity. Despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary, they will fiercely defend their new persona. This extreme mental disconnect essentially overwrites their true identity with a complex fantasy.
