'Jarts': The Flying Metal Spike
Heavy, metal-tipped lawn darts.
Lawn darts, or 'Jarts,' were a popular backyard game involving throwing large, heavy darts with sharp metal tips into a target ring on the ground. After numerous emergency room visits and several tragic child deaths caused by errant throws, the darts were banned for sale in the U.S. in 1988. They were deemed a 'mechanical hazard' too dangerous for consumer use.
