Clicks, Clacks, and Catastrophes
The Click-Clack (or Clacker) toy.
These toys, consisting of two hard acrylic balls on a string, were a massive fad in the late 60s and early 70s. The goal was to clack them together above and below the hand, but the balls were prone to shattering upon impact. The flying, sharp shards of plastic caused eye injuries and other wounds, leading the FDA to ban them as a 'mechanical hazard.'
