Intended as a futuristic seaside resort for wealthy vacationers, the San Zhi pod houses were a marvel of retro-futurist design. However, a series of mysterious fatal accidents during construction led to rumors of a curse, and the project was abandoned in 1980 before it ever opened. The entire ghost city was demolished in 2010, but lives on in haunting photographs.
