Miracle in the Andes
72 days of starvation, freezing cold, and a harrowing choice.
After their plane crashed in the Andes mountains in 1972, 16 survivors of Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571 faced an impossible ordeal. To survive starvation over 72 days in sub-zero temperatures, they were forced to resort to cannibalism. Their survival was secured only after two members heroically hiked for 10 days across the mountains to find help.
