In an attempt to set a world record and raise money, Father Adelir Antônio de Carli took off from Paranaguá, Brazil, on April 20, 2008, lifted by party balloons. This image shows his ascent before he was blown off course and lost contact. Parts of his body were recovered months later, ending his tragic and bizarre final journey.
