Found in a New Guinea foxhole, a tiny Yorkshire Terrier named Smoky was adopted by Cpl. William Wynne. She flew 12 combat missions, survived 150 air raids, and saved countless lives by running a telegraph cable through a narrow 70-foot pipe, a task that would have otherwise taken days and exposed soldiers to enemy fire. Smoky's loyalty was a beacon of light for soldiers in the darkest of times.
