Machu Picchu: Citadel in the Clouds

Built around 1450 AD and abandoned a century later, this Incan estate sits spectacularly on a mountain ridge in Peru. It was unknown to the outside world until its rediscovery in 1911 by Hiram Bingham. Its seamless dry-stone walls, terraces, and astronomical alignments showcase the peak of Incan engineering.
