#15: The Hermann Grid Illusion

Look at this grid of black squares on a white background, and you'll likely see illusory gray dots at the intersections. However, when you look directly at an intersection, the dot vanishes. This is caused by a neural process called lateral inhibition, where stimulated cells in your retina suppress the activity of their neighbors.
