A dissociative fugue is a rare psychiatric phenomenon where a person completely forgets their identity and past life, often wandering far from home. In many cases, they unconsciously invent an entirely new name, occupation, and personality. When they eventually "wake up" from the fugue, they often have absolutely no memory of their alternate life.
