The Napoleon Imperative

Grandiose delusions occur when a person firmly believes they are someone famous, wealthy, or highly powerful, despite obvious evidence to the contrary. Patients in psychiatric history have genuinely believed themselves to be figures like Napoleon Bonaparte or royalty. Their brain chemically forces them to adopt this spectacular, alternate persona to cope with trauma or severe mania.
