In 1972, flight attendant Vesna Vulović was the sole survivor when her plane exploded in mid-air. She plummeted 33,330 feet, trapped in a section of the fuselage which then crashed into a snowy mountainside. She suffered a fractured skull, broken legs, and was temporarily paralyzed, but she eventually made a near-complete recovery, earning a Guinness World Record.
